About the Author

Hello.
My name is PikaMyu RYO.

I love music, languages,
and learning about cultures around the world.

I started playing the piano
when I was 5 years old.

From junior high school,
I began writing songs.

When I was in high school,
I had a very difficult time
because of illness.

During that time,
I found comfort and hope
in foreign languages
other than English.

This experience led me
to study foreign languages at university.

Since then,
I have learned about
languages and cultures
from many countries and regions.

Music and language
are two very important parts of my life.

Why I Created This Site

I created this site for:

  • people who come to Japan from other countries
  • people who live in Japan and are learning Japanese
  • children in Japan

Many people study hiragana and katakana
before coming to Japan.

But after arriving,
they find that Japanese has many kanji,
and they cannot read important information.

They want to know,
but they cannot understand.
They are worried,
but they do not know where to ask.

I wanted to help people like this.

That is why this site uses
easy Japanese,
written with simple words
and clear explanations.

A Moment I Will Never Forget

One day,
I talked with a young woman
from another country
who was working in Japan.

Because she could not speak Japanese well,

  • she could not choose another job
  • even shopping was difficult
  • she could not return to her country because she did not have enough money

She said,
“Because I don’t know Japanese,
my choices are very limited.”

I wanted to do something
to help people like her.

Since many people have smartphones,
I decided to share helpful information
that can be read easily on a phone.

Culture and Manners

Rules and manners
are different in each country.

Something that is OK in one country
may not be OK in Japan.

Many problems happen
because people were not told
what is important in advance.

On this site,
I try to explain:

  • what is important in Japan
  • what may cause trouble
  • how to avoid misunderstandings

I believe this helps
both visitors to Japan
and people who live in Japan.

For Children Too

This site is also for children.

If you can read basic Japanese,
you can learn:

“What does this mean?”
“What is this?”

You do not always need
to ask an adult.

I hope this site becomes
a place to learn and feel curious.

What this site means to me

This site is not only for readers.
It is also a place
for me to learn and organize information.

When I find something
I do not understand well,
I research it,
organize the information,
and write it as an article.

By doing this,
I can understand better,
and I hope the information
can also help people
who have the same questions.
